The POP-EXPOSE ‘Snow Day’ by Mitchell Smith!

I know there are some of you who don’t really get snow or maybe get a little and it’s gone in a day. Here in northern and Central New York though, snow is a common occurrence and normally we are dealing with lots of it this time of the year. They even made a movie about Syracuse (my current city) called Snow Day with Chevy Chase, John Schneider, Josh Peck and Chris Elliott. There was also a guest appearance by Iggy Pop. Those who have not had the pleasure of a snow day as a kid, you definitely missed out. There isn’t much difference from a Saturday, but it is different, mainly because you get a day off from school.
As depicted in the movie anything could happen on a snow day. As a kid there are all kinds of tricks to do the night before to try and get a snow day. Turn your PJs inside out, stick a pencil in the freezer, or flush some ice cubes down the toilet. All great ways to make it snow so hard that the plow crew cannot keep up with it. Then when it finally does snow enough, you put on your snow gear and you go outside to build a snow fort, snow man, have a snow ball fight and hopefully you will find a giant hill to go sledding on. As an adult snow days suck mostly because you still need to go out on the unplowed roads and slip and slide and spin all the way to work. Meanwhile back home the kid are playing and having a fun time in the snow. When they get to cold they will come in for hot chocolate and cookies. The movie is a bit corny but when you are a kid this is a great one to watch when you have a snow day.
